What is a Social Media Influencer?
A social media influencer is someone who has many followers on one or more social media platforms as well as lots of engagement and interaction with their followers. We like to categorize influencers in two ways- macro influencers and micro influencers. What’s the difference? A macro influencer has hundreds if not, millions of followers. A micro influencer has typically under a hundred thousand followers. While macro influencers can certainly help your brand with brand awareness and outreach, they are costly, and many brands don’t have a budget for that. However, research shows that micro influencers can be more effective. What does this mean? Well, macro influencers will endorse almost any brand willing to pay a high dollar price tag. So many followers are less inclined to believe the authenticity of the endorsement. Whereas micro influencers get paid significantly less, if not, no money, therefore; they tend to be pickier about the products they endorse.
